Crystal Ridge Farm is a family-managed Miniature horse farm nestled in the hills of Roxbury, Connecticut. Roxbury is a small farming town with a decidedly New England flavor, but it’s less than one hour’s drive from Hartford and only about an hour and a half from New York City.

Crystal Ridge Farm began in the late 1980’s as a Miniature horse breeding and showing establishment when owners Lorraine and Tom O’Connell switched their focus from large horses to the Mini’s. The O’Connell’s purchased a stallion of “Blue Boy” descent, Blue Carousel, who has been the foundation of their breeding program ever since. His get have amassed in excess of one hundred AMHA World Top Tens and multiple AMHA World Champion and Reserve World Champion titles.

Throughout the past twenty years, Crystal Ridge Farm has focused on producing the finest “arabian style” Miniature horses and has become the premier breeder of arabian Miniatures in the world today. Conformation is the key focus of their breeding operation, with size (under 34 inches), color, temperament, and bloodlines all playing important roles in their foal crop each year.

The O’Connell’s have modified their broodmare herd over the years and only the finest arabian-producing mares are being bred at Crystal Ridge. The foals produced are the future show ring winners within our industry. Any breeding program would be enhanced with the addition of a Crystal Ridge horse.

The bloodlines of Crystal Ridge Farm include direct-line descendants of the great FWF Blue Boy, Rowdy, Gold Melody Boy, Buckeroo, Lazy Ns Red Boy, Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King, FWF Blues Golden Comet, and Bond Sir Galahad.  The stallions of Crystal Ridge are not over-bred, so the market value of foals born at the farm is protected along with the market value of customers’ foals.  Quality, not quantity, is the key to a successful breeding program at Crystal Ridge.
