MOM’S MINIS is a “senior citizen’s dream” come true, says Ginny Gonsalves, owner and operator of this small farm in Raynham, Massachussets. Though she specializes in appy minis, Ginny breeds for quality before color. Mom’s Minis has recently joined with Angel Catarius in proud half ownership of the beautiful Egyptian King son NFC Egyptian King Super Sport.

Mom’s Minis chooses their horses not only for conformation and ability to produce for the show ring, but also for disposition and tendency to bond with humans. Beauty is not enough for the average owner, and rightly so. The farm offers price adjustments for those that purchase multiple horses because of the miniature horses’ need for companionship and always gives special consideration to return buyers. They are selective in placement of their horses and strive for both a happy horse and a satisfied, knowledgeable owner.

All of Mom’s Minis are given individual attention from birth and are handled and loved every day by the “boss” herself.

Mom’s Minis was born in 2006 when Ginny’s son and daughter-law gave her the money to “go out and buy a mini” as a birthday gift. They knew that giving up her Arabs years before, by necessity, had left an empty place in her heart.  Because “minis are like potato chips, you can’t buy just one,” Ginny became a happy mini “accumulator” – like so many of the other mini enthusiasts with which “Mom” has since become associated. Do you think it’s contagious?

These wonderful little horses somehow gave Ginny the strength she needed to survive during her husband Gene’s long terminal journey through the horrors of ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and all the heartache that goes along with that. During those years Gene was known as “the carrot man” by all those who loved him, because he would get his physical therapy by working his obstinate muscles to get carrots through
the fence to his beloved horses.

During and since that time, many folks have helped to get the farm started and in return, Mom’s Minis is committed to helping new enthusiasts.

Mom’s Minis has grown to four stallions and six mares and does offer their stallions at stud to approved families (private treaty).  Bloodlines include: Chianti, Rowdy and Egyptian King. Also the farm would be willing to consider “free lease” to the right farms of Rowdy and Egyptian King grandsons since they are a bit “heavy” with stallions but love these two boys. “They deserve their own families and their own ladies,” says Ginny.

This has been an eventful year for Mom’s Minis. The new barn is nearly completed and for the first time you will see Mom’s Minis in the show ring. Don’t forget to say “hi” at the shows!

One of the farm’s goals is to help other miniature horse owners. You don’t have to buy a horse from Mom’s Minis to get them to help you – or to come learn along with them! Ginny says, “If you like our horses we’ll be happy to match you up with one, but we’re happy to help even if you got your horse elsewhere.”  Minis are Mom’s passion and so are the people that love them.  Visitors, just give them a call and they will roll out the welcome mat for you!
