FREE Novice Classes in 2009

If you’re new to Miniature horses or interested in seeing what showing Minis is all about, the New England Miniature Horse Society will be the place to be in 2009.  Through a special sponsorship arrangement all Novice classes will be FREE to enter at all of our shows!  It’s a terrific opportunity to bring your horses to a show just for fun, to learn to show in halter, or to try a new performance class – without the expense of class entry fees.  Novice classes still qualify for coveted NEMHS Year-End Awards, too.  Additional information about this new program will be available on our Web site at nemhs.org.

2009 Show Season

Our show committee, chaired by Lorraine O’Connell, has been busy planning our 2009 show season, which was discussed at a lively committee meeting held before the Society’s Annual Meeting in December.  A six-show schedule is being proposed, a Show Manager has been retained and judges are being recruited.  We have commitments from a few AMHA 2009 World Show judges already!  Jean St. Denis will be the official points keeper again – thank you, Jean.

A two-day/two-show event is being planned for Fonda, NY in June.  We’re looking forward to meeting and competing with Mini enthusiasts from the western part of our AMHA region.  A second two-day/two-show event is proposed for July, with a one-day show in May and another in August to round out our season.  Details will be published here and on the club’s Web site when finalized.

2008 Annual Meeting and Elections

The NEMHS Annual Meeting was held on December 7th at the So. Killingly Fire Station in Danielson, CT.  A number of changes to the by-laws had been proposed; all of them were adopted by the membership at the meeting.  The revised by-laws can be found on the NEMHS Web site.

Two seats on the Board of Directors were up for re-election.  A third seat was ruled open because the Board member had become ineligible to serve.  Tom O’Connell (of CT) and Jane Phillips (of RI) were re-elected to the Board, and Kristina Slobody (of MA) was elected to fill the vacant seat.  The other two Board members are Darlene David (of MA) and Jane Golden (of CT).  (No more than two directors may be from the same state.)

Elections for officers were also held.  David Goble was elected President for 2009.  Craig Laurer was elected Vice President, Jean St. Denis was elected Secretary and Patrick Herrick was re-elected to serve as Treasurer.

Congratulations to our new and returning officers and directors, and sincere thanks to our departing secretary Danielle Dupuis and Board member Heather Lemire.  We appreciate your service to the club and wish all of you continued success.
